Neovim color scheme

Token

Token is a color scheme for Neovim 0.12 and later. It has five appearances, and each one has a dark and a light variant. Themes for your terminal, shell and other tools come from the same palettes.

The screenshots below follow your system appearance. Use the full-size links to see the other variant.

What Token colors

All five appearances share one set of type rules. Control flow and headings are bold, comments and quotes are italic, and links are underlined. Token also colors:

  • Treesitter captures and LSP semantic tokens
  • LSP diagnostics, as signs, virtual text and underlines
  • Diff highlights in buffers and in the sign column
  • Files that use classic Vim syntax instead of Treesitter
  • The 16 ANSI colors in the built-in terminal
  • Lualine, plus the plugin integrations you turn on in setup()

Themes for other tools

Token generates themes for these tools from the same palettes, so your terminal, shell and editor match. Each comes in all five appearances.

  • Apple Terminal
  • bat
  • Blink Shell
  • Carapace
  • ChatGPT desktop
  • delta
  • Emacs
  • fish
  • fzf
  • Ghostty
  • GtkSourceView
  • Herdr
  • Hermes Agent
  • iTerm2
  • kitty
  • lazygit
  • Obsidian
  • Pi
  • ripgrep
  • Starship
  • Sublime Text
  • tmux
  • VS Code
  • Windows Terminal
  • Xcode
  • Zsh

Rendr, my Markdown preview app, also includes all five Token appearances as preview themes.

Install

Token needs Neovim 0.12 or later. To follow tagged releases, add it with vim.pack:

vim.pack.add({
  {
    src = 'https://github.com/ThorstenRhau/token',
    version = vim.version.range('*'),
  },
})

Or with lazy.nvim:

{ 'ThorstenRhau/token', version = '*' }

Then load an appearance. vim.o.background picks the dark or light variant. Set it before you load the color scheme, or change it later to switch.

vim.o.background = 'dark'
vim.cmd.colorscheme('token-ultra')

Configuration is optional. You can change the palette, highlights, terminal colors and plugin integrations with require('token').setup(). Read the configuration options.
